Between 1949 and 1976, China was closed-off to foreigners. In 1978, China’s most famous economic reformist, Deng Xiaoping, opened up China to outsiders an estimated 1.8 million tourists entered China. Over 700 million trips were made by China domestic tourists in 1999 and China became the highest holiday spenders in the world in 2012. At the end of 2015, the Chinese tourism industry reported a 15% increase in International tourism expenditure to almost 190 billion dollars.

It learned that approximately 126.5 million Chinese visitors travel outbound in 2015; China has been keeping at the first in Global International Tourism Expenditure Rank List since 2012.
