Indian E-Commerce Market Expected to Reach $12 Billion by 2015

The Indian e-commerce market is having a very profitable year and it is all going up-hill. Flipkart, the country’s largest online retailer and marketplace, even sold more than $200 million worth of mobile phones during the five-day Big Billion Days sale.

Although the big players, such as Flipkart, Amazon, eBay and Snapdeal are taking up the bulk of the market, an increasing number of small and medium sized e-commerce players are profiting from the rising market. Competition in the domestic e-commerce space is expected to intensify also since many bricks and mortar big firms plan to foray into online retailing.
 
High hopes for sellers on the Indian market
Prospects for Indian e-commerce companies are very good. The domestic market is expected to have a three-fold increase in its value compared to last year. More and more people are buying online and the combined gross merchandise value (GMV) of the Indian online retailers is projected to surpass $12 billion by December against $4.5 billion recorded in 2014. The e-tailer Myntra shoots for the stars by announcing that it strives to reach an incredible $1 billion sales in 2016. Amazon also increased four-fold this year, as it tripled the number of sellers on its platform.

Big players such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon will continue to provide a wide variety of merchandise on their platforms by partnering with many sellers and enhancing delivery mechanism. This will fuel the e-commerce sector and entail its massive growth by improving the e-commerce ecosystem. India’s overall economy is growing steadily. Goldman Sachs proclaims that India’s ecommerce market to breach $100 billion mark by FY20. Being the second biggest country worldwide by population and having gone through a fast development in technology and infrastructure in the past decade, the BRICS country will surely be in for some surprises in global e-commerce in the next years.
