Date: 2015-09-10

“• Global manganese reserves measured 570 million tonnes (Mt) as of January 2015, with South Africa accounting for 150Mt, followed by Ukraine (140Mt), Australia (97Mt), Brazil (54Mt), India (52Mt), China (44Mt) and Gabon (24Mt).

• The global manganese industry will be impacted by the interplay of related factors such as the growth and development of the global steel industry and investments in projects and ports.

• The estimated increase in manganese ore production in 2014 was due to the additional annual manganese ore production capacity of 5Mt resulting from mine expansions and startups, 57% of which were in South Africa. In 2013, production increased by 8.9% over 2012, driven by increased demand from emerging economies, following a contraction in 2012.”
