Date: 2015-12

“On 4 Nov., 2015, China’s top legislature adopted an amendment to the Seed Law on the 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress. After three years of revision, the new seed law that contains 94 articles in 10 chapters will be put into effect on 1 Jan., 2016.

Many new regulations in the seed law are worth noting, such as standardizing the scientific research system for breeding, the protection system for new plant varieties, the variety verification system, the supervision system for the seed industry, legal liabilities, etc., providing legal guarantee for the forming of the modern seed industry system in China.

Currently in China, the seed industry is facing many challenges. Can the revised seed law improve this situation? ”
