Oil and gas robotics Market

Date: 2016-05

The oil and gas industry is the most essential industry which almost every business and industry relies on. Power generation is extremely important for an industry to function in which case the oil and gas industry forms the fundamental basis of the entire market. There are other green sources of energy such as wind ad tidal, however the power contribution from them as on date is nowhere close to what the oil and gas industry can provide. Further to this, the by-products, which are produced from the processing oil and gas, are also used for a number of other industries. With the high importance of this industry, there is also a great risk associated with the industry. The processing, which takes place in this industry, takes place under extreme pressure and temperature. Further to this, during the drilling an exploration of oil and gas, the environment itself can be very unstable depending on the location. With so much uncertainty, it has been necessary to limit the exposure of man power at these various sites unless absolutely required. In such a situation, there is need for technology to improve the safety of the individuals who are working at these sites. Robots have played an important role in improving safety at the oil and gas sites whilst also ensuring that the facilities operate efficiently with as less down time as possible in case of any problem, which may occur.

The robots, which are used in the oil and gas industry, will be designed based on the purpose for which they are required. For example, inspection robots will ideally be those which can fit through small spaces and which can withstand high temperature as they are often used to detect leaks or the detect areas which may be prone to a leak in the future. The inspection robots will also already have certain functionalities already embedded which will be used for performing some rudimentary tests based on which it will be decided as to whether the machine/pipes/process is functioning as required. The robots, which are used in this industry, are specialized and as such the vendors, which develop these robots, are not many and are specialized in this field specific to this application.
