Global Laminated glass polymer film leading players

Date: 2016-09-12

Laminated glass polymer film is a type of safety glass that holds together when shattered. In the event of breaking, it is held in place by an interlayer, typically of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), between its two or more layers of glass.

PVB film is one of the most popular interlayer used for glass lamination.
The bonding process takes place under heat and pressure. PVB films & sheets are used in different end-user industries such as automotive, construction and photovoltaic. PVB is manufactured from the condensation reaction of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and n-butyraldehyde. PVB is compatible with phthalate ester, phosphate ester, fatty ester, glycol derivatives and many other plasticizers.

Asia-Pacific is the global leader in the consumption of PVB resins and PVB films & sheets and this dominance is expected to continue till 2020. China is the key market in the region, consuming more than half of the demand for PVB resins and films & sheets.

Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)
EVA is an elastomeric polymer that produces materials which are “rubber-like” in softness and flexibility. The material has good clarity and gloss, low-temperature toughness, stress-crack resistance, hot-melt adhesive waterproof properties, and resistance to UV radiation. EVA has a distinctive vinegar-like odor and is competitive with rubber and vinyl products in many electrical applications.

According to research, the global EVA market to grow at a CAGR of 4.77% during the period 2016-2020. Asia-Pacific is the global leader in the production of Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and expected to continue till 2020.
