Global Demand For Polyisobutene Is Projected To Reach 1.24 Million Tons By 2015

Date: 2015-12-04

Over the past few years, the global demand for polyisobutene remained stable growth, 0.99 million tones demanded in 2010 was increased to 1.15 million tons in 2014, and study shows it was expected hit 1.24 million tons by 2015.
Since demand growth rate of polyisobutene was sluggish in the western countries in recently years, the driven forces were from Asian countries where as rapidly economy growth, especially in automobile industry, now Asian demand for polyisobutene grows at 8-10% annually, leading the demand market around the world.

Polyisobutylene is the homopolymer of isobutylene, or 2-methyl-1-propene, on which butyl rubber is based. Butyl rubber is produced by polymerization of about 98% of isobutylene with about 2% of isoprene. Structurally, polyisobutylene resembles polypropylene, having two methyl groups substituted on every other carbon atom. Polyisobutylene is a colorless to light yellow viscoelastic material. It is generally odorless and tasteless, though it may exhibit a slight characteristic odor.

Polyisobutene production and demand in China
In 2014, Chinese polyisobutene production was 0.16 million tons, and according to data from custom, China imported 28 thousand tons as demand of polyisobutene grew to 172.5 thousand tons in 2014, predicated the demand will reach 184 thousand tons by 2015 in China.
