“The Vietnamese dairy market has performed exceptionally well, demonstrating double digit growth across both Dairy Drinks & Food categories. Key factors noted in the market for 2013 include:
• Domestic raw milk supplies are able to serve between 20-30% of the nationwide dairy demand; 90% of all milk yielding cows are in small herds, raised by unskilled private farmers who are not trained in livestock management techniques or disease prevention methods. This has left dairy companies largely dependent on imported raw milk in order to meet domestic demand
• Producers are increasing investment in local production facilities in order to meet this growing demand in both urban and rural areas, resulting in expanding distribution channels and educational opportunities for private farmers
• In order to closely control product quality, the government has issued some regulations on hygiene and food safety, packaging standards and levels of additives for categories such as dairy, carbonates, fruit juice, packaged water, etc. Imported products, especially dairy, are now much more strictly controlled than in the past and each shipment is subject to quality control and quality certification requirements”
