“This chapter reviews the global sales of neonicotinoid pesticides in the past decade and its registration in China. Market positions of main neonicotinoid pesticides are also predicted in this article.
Neonicotinoid pesticides are currently limited or banned for use in many countries and regions, such as the EU, Brazil, Canada and the US, due to its harmful effect on bees. In 2013, China’s ICAMA held a special meeting to discuss corresponding measures to reduce neonicotinoid pesticides harmful effect on bees. Despite this, as of Jan. 2016, no related policies have been released in China.
Thiamethoxam has the highest sales among all neonicotinoid insecticides, approximately
accounting for 30% of total sales. In addition, its sale ranks foremost in the world. In 2014, the sales value of thiamethoxam reached USD1.18 billion globally. This article reports on the development status of thiamethoxam around the world and in China.
