Business Climate Indicator was Up 0.14pts to 0.34 in September In Europe

In Europe, the business climate indicator was up 0.14pts to 0.34 in September, above expectations. Meanwhile, the final consumer confidence was steady at -7.1 in September, within expectations.

The economic confidence index was up 1.5pts to 105.6 in September and the industrial confidence index rose 1.5pts to -2.2. The pan-German HICP inflation rate fell to -0.2% y/y from +0.1% y/y previously, according to the preliminary September data. Separately, Spain flash HICP for the month came in sharply lower at -1.2% y/y, against expectations for -0.6%, whilst August retail sales data also came in lower at +3.1% y/y versus an expected +3.3% print.

In the UK, CBI reported sales survey at +49% in September, up from +24% in August, above expectations. This was the best reading since May. According to compiler of the sources, 60% of respondents asserted that sales volumes rose in September as compared to last year, whilst 11% cited it fell, thus giving a net balance of 49%.
